Town drops plan to opt-out!

At the end of a late afternoon work session on Wednesday, February 8th, Town Supervisor Jacqueline Annabi announced that the board would no longer be pursuing its plan to opt out of the NY State property tax exemption program that encourages investments in clean energy.

She said that because the town hasn't been assessing property improvements that occurr when solar panels are installed, there is no need to move forward with the original resolution. As a result, there will be no vote on the proposal at the next board meeting on February 15th. This decision marks a reversal of Supervisor Annabi's stance on the issue during the January public hearing. At that hearing, town residents spoke in opposition to the proposal and many also submitted written comments. It is heartening to see town officials being responsive to the concerns of their constituents.
