Town Updates
- At yesterday's work session, the Town Board issued the fee schedule for residents seeking permits for their short-term transient rentals. Homeowners will need to pay $500 for the application for the special use permit and another $500 to the Planning Board for its review. Once approved, the annual inspection fee will be $100. Town Supervisor Jacqueline Annabi said she expects the permitting process to begin June 1st. The board also detailed the process for collecting the new, 2% tax on visitors who stay in short-term rentals. Hosts will need to submit the taxes they collect from their renters to the town on a quarterly basis, within 20 days of each quarter's end. Failure to file will result in a 5% penalty, plus 1% interest for each month of delay.
- Kingdom Faire, the Renaissance entertainment group that learned it could not hold its events this summer at Camp Combe, has moved its venue to Camp Herrlich in Patterson.
- The Putnam Valley Central School District announced that it will offer free, universal pre-K in September, in partnership with the YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester. A New York State grant will enable a limited number of four-year olds to attend. Students will be selected in a lottery that will be live-streamed on June 2nd for transparency. Click here to apply by the May 30th deadline.
- Finally, a reminder that an important election is taking place on May 20th at the elementary school, 171 Oscawana Lake Road. At issue are the school district's budget and capital plan, two seats on the school board, and the town library's budget.
