Town Hall August Update

Bruce Barber, the town's long-serving wetlands inspector and planning consultant, submitted his resignation today. He did not respond to a voicemail requesting more information. While Barber was out on medical leave this spring the town hired an interim wetlands inspector, Max Garfinkle, who has also been serving in that role in Philipstown.

Supervisor Alison Jolicoeur says that in the wake of Barber's resignation, the board will extend Garfinkle's contract until the end of the year to address wetlands issues. However, that still leaves the planning position open at a time when there are several major town projects requiring planning expertise. Supervisor Jolicoeur has expressed a desire to update the town's Comprehensive Plan, which dates from 2007, and to apply for grants to develop an Open Space Inventory. There are also a number of controversial land use issues before the town's Planning Board, such as developments involving Citywide Automotive and Camp Combe, that require town planning guidance.
