Republican Primary Results
The Putnam County Board of Elections released its initial batch of results tonight for the Republican primary for Town Supervisor. These unofficial results include election day votes, early voting and absentee ballots.
Town Supervisor Jacqueline Annabi beat Stephanie Waters, a newcomer to the political scene, by a vote of 301 to 258. Although Waters ran an aggressive campaign and came close to victory, Annabi's long experience on the Town Board and her strong ties to county and state officials likely helped sway voters.
Annabi will now be running in November against the Democratic Party's candidate for supervisor, Alison Jolicoeur.
Interestingly, the candidate who wins in November will only serve a one-year term as supervisor. That is because the New York State legislature decided to move most town and county elections to even-numbered years to better align with state and national elections; the goal is to improve voter turnout for local elections. As a result, candidates will have another chance to win election in 2026. Oh boy!
