Election Drama Continues
The razor thin margin that put Town Supervisor Jaqueline Annabi ahead of Alison Jolicoeur in last night's unofficial results was erased today as more absentee and early mail-in ballots were counted. According to the county's Board of Elections, Jolicoeur is now ahead of Annabi by six votes. In the battle for the two Town Board seats, Christian Russo is in the lead with 1,547 votes, CJ Brooks is in second place with 1,516 votes, and Stacey Tompkins is in third place, with 1,504 votes.
This election uncertainty could drag on for at least another week as the final mailed-in ballots are counted and results posted on a daily basis, and challenges are inevitably raised. If the margin of victory involves fewer than 20 votes, an automatic hand recount will be required. As considerably more registered Democratic voters requested mail-in ballots than Republicans or unaffiliated voters, this clearly ain't over till it's over.
